Las Vegas is one of the top tourist destinations in the world, but it offers a lot more than just the Vegas strip. Sure, you can spend your trip playing the tables, catching shows, and dancing the night away at clubs; but what if your tastes are a little more adventurous? It might surprise you to find out that Las Vegas is an excellent vacation destination for outdoor enthusiasts and thrill-seekers.

Consider these five outdoor activities on your next trip to Sin City.

1. Cycle in Red Rock Canyon

Located just 15 miles from Las Vegas, Red Rock Canyon covers some 200,000 acres, and is ideal to explore via bicycle. Numerous rental companies offer bicycles for the day, along with guided tours for all skill and fitness levels. Riders can enjoy views of the amazing desert landscape with its cacti and Joshua trees, and possibly catch glimpse of a desert tortoise, wild burro, or desert bighorn sheep. Just keep in mind that these activities should be limited to mornings or cooler months of the year, as the summer heat can be intense.

2. Float the Colorado River

Head just outside Vegas and take a guided canoeing and kayaking tour on the famous Colorado River between Hoover Dam and Davis Dam. There are different tour lengths available to suit your schedule, and you can explore natural wonders like Emerald Cave along the way. And if you’re worried about rough water, don’t be. This stretch of the river is typically calm and suited to novice paddlers.

3. Skydive Las Vegas

The surrounding desert landscape and temperate weather year-round makes Las Vegas an ideal skydiving destination, with numerous companies available to take you up for the ultimate thrill ride. Whether you’re experienced or brand new to the activity, there are jumps available. And if you aren’t up to actually jumping out of an airplane, you can give indoor skydiving a try for the same sensation without the height.

4. Take a Desert Off-Road Tour

Get up close and personal with the Mojave Desert by taking an off-road tour. Several tour companies offer guided ATV and 4WD tours of varying lengths and intensity to suit every interest. Whether you want to go slow and take in the scenery, or blast across the desert with an expert at the wheel, a desert tour near Las Vegas is sure to offer a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

5. Saddle Up Like a Cowboy (or Cowgirl)

If you want to experience the Las Vegas area like it was a century ago, take a guided horseback riding tour through the mountains and canyons of the Mojave Desert. Both new and experienced riders can take part in guided tours ranging from as little as one hour to over five hours. Some rides even include catered meals, such as a hearty trailside breakfast, or a gourmet barbecue dinner.

Travel Insurance for Las Vegas Vacations

No matter what adventures you plan to have in Las Vegas, it’s essential to protect yourself against the unexpected with insurance for your Las Vegas Getaway.

If you’re visiting Las Vegas as part of a trip to the United States from another country, get visitors medical insurance. If you get sick or get hurt in the US and need treatment, you’ll discover firsthand just how expensive American medical care is. And don’t plan on being able to use the domestic health insurance from your home country, as it’s unlikely to be accepted. Without visitors medical insurance, you will be responsible for paying the entire bill yourself. Gamble at the slot machines; not with your health. Get visitors medical insurance and be protected.

Keep in mind that not all adventure activities are covered by standard travel insurance plans. If you plan to take part in activity that’s excluded from regular coverage, look into hazardous sports travel insurance. If you get injured while taking part in a covered adventurous activity, you won’t want to risk going without coverage. However, be sure to read the details of the plan carefully before purchasing. Not all plans cover the same activities, so it’s important to do your research. Do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions.
